Ann Dunnavant Spirit Award

As all of you know we lost our friend Ann Dunnavant on January 21, 2015.  Ann loved these junior shaggers.  She knew that they are the ones to carry on this dance for the next generation.

Ann danced at an early age with her friends at Moore’s Lake and all the other local dance halls.  Ann was a “bopper” but soon learned the Carolina Shag .  She was a member of the Richmond Shag Club. Ann traveled to many of the out of town shag club annual parties and made life long friends along the way.  She attended Fall SOS without fail.  Ann always had a smile and always a kind word.  When she laughed the whole room knew.

Ann knew that the shag would live on through junior shaggers.  She worked behind the scenes for the first Central Virginia Junior Shag Jam.  She was there to cheer them on whether it was for our Virginia dancers or those from out of state.  Ann made sure she had a seat at the edge of the dance floor so she wouldn’t miss a thing.

In her memory we are establishing the Ann Dean Dunnavant Spirit Award.  This award will be presented to a junior shagger at the annual Junior Shag Jam which is held at the Hopewell Moose Lodge.  This years event will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015.

To be considered for this award the Junior is required to complete the application which includes writing a short essay stating why he or she should be considered.  It should tell us about themselves, school activities, church activities, sports activities, community service activities and most important what this dance means to them.  We look forward to hearing what these junior shaggers have to say. See you on the dance floor.
