I was born in Newport News Va. in 1954. I graduated Hampton High School in 1972. I worked in the Newport News Shipyard for 2 years before entering the Carpenters Apprentice program sponsored by Carpenters Local 396.I worked in the trade for 35 years before retiring.
I always loved to dance but didn’t take any lessons until age 40. I signed up[with my partner Kathy Manny] for Carolina Shag classes offered by the Newport News Parks and Recreation Dept. We were hooked at the first class. Kathy and I fell in love with this dance although we have dabbled in Ballroom dance also.
I have competed on the Competitive Shaggers Association circuit rising through the ranks to Pro level. My competition partner Joan McKinney have enjoyed learning to be better dancers through competition.
I have been teaching Carolina Shag for Boogie On The Bay Shag Club for approx.16 years. I enjoy sharing the knowledge of the dance I have acquired over the years.I especially love teaching juniors so Shag can be enjoyed for many years to come.I highly support what the CVJS is doing for the juniors of Virginia. I’m happy to be one of their instructors for as long as they will have me.
Other interests include riding motorcycles, sailing and learning new skills on the computer.
